| Baltimore's location, at the extreme southern tip of Ireland with open
ocean to the south and west, makes it an ideal starting point for pelagics.
The waters off nearby Cape Clear island are well known for species like
the larger shearwaters, petrels and skuas. Chumming enables birds to be
viewed at close range.
Regular sightings on Rooster include:
An added bonus is the likelihood of seeing other marine animals, like cetaceans, sharks and turtles. Rooster is a fast modern purpose-built charter boat, licensed for up to 12 passengers, with seating and the full complement of navigational and safety equipment including lifejackets, liferaft, ship-to-shore radio, etc. There is also a flush toilet. The skipper, Nick Dent, is a birdwatcher himself ready to share his knowledge of the area with you. In addition to Baltimore, groups can be picked up by arrangement at other
points including Cape Clear.
